George Washington is quoted in 1776 as saying, "Even minutiae should have a place in our collection, for things of a seemingly trifling nature, when enjoined with others of a more serious cast, may lead to valuable conclusion." The crossing of the Delaware was no haphazard accident.
In World War II, the saying, "loose lips might sink ships" was utilized as one of several warnings to troops and civilians alike regarding the importance of not giving information to American and Allied enemies. The D-Day invasion worked...barely.
During Vietnam, a program called "Purple Dragon" was carried out leading to what today is known as Operations Security, or OPSEC. In simplest terms, OPSEC is denying potential bad guys bits of information, that when added up, can lead to harm against the good guys. This is very relevant in Homeland Security and Defense, in both Private and Public settings.
The OPSEC Guy is dedicated to helping change our non-OPSEC conscious society. He understands that the age of secrecy is nearly over and open source information is the future of security and defense, which makes the art and science of OPSEC that much more important. He can't stop the news networks from supporting the enemies with so much information that it harms the good guys...but he can teach the good guys how to help themselves.
Wondering who the good guys are? In this case, it's the millions of Americans who day-in and day-out are working hard to make a better life for themselves and their families and it's the hundreds of thousands of people dedicated to their well-being and protection.
The official OpSecGuy.com™ site is coming soon with eye-opening tips for the good guys...not the bad guys!
